He undertook 3 sessions during the day to ensure all age groups were catered for, each session commenced with a useful motivational talk, film and was complimented by some land work, this being tailored to the age of the swimmers. He then took a session in the pool whereby he encouraged good technique and demonstrated that even though he is not still in full training his technique was a pleasure to watch.

All the swimmers were encouraged to try out his ideas and many have gone away to implement these within there own training sessions.

Steve made the day a really useful and enjoyable day, all the swimmers and parents were given the opportunity to see his medals, ask questions and the swimmers had the chance for photo’s to be taken with Steve, even the Coach got to have her picture with him!!

The swimmers took part in a session of Land training which allowed them to focus on the importance of stretching in the prevention of injuries. This was followed by a swimming session whereby Sarah explained the importance of pacing, asking the swimmers to swim slowly proved a challenge to them all.

Sarah challenged the swimmers to swim further than herself underwater, very brave challenge as she put her car on the line as a prize should anyone beat her. Luckily for Sarah she kept her car.

A real emphasis was placed on how a swimmer can influence a race before it has even started, Sarah demonstrated a couple of examples of how to prepare for a race, then the swimmers had the opportunity to commence a race whilst being totally focussed, the improvement has been noticed when competing in gala’s since. I am sure the swimmers will continue to remember this in the future.

Sarah signed autographs and was happy to pose for pictures with swimmers to end a superb clinic.

The Club is looking at participating in a further clinic in September, being hosted by Swim MK and with another Olympic Star hosting. I am sure the swimmers will look forward to taking part in this one.
